Johnathan Judd was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and moved to Fargo, North Dakota in 1990. He is a 1991 graduate of Fargo North High School. Johnathan is a North Dakota State University graduate where he majored in Political Science and History. He attended law school at the University of North Dakota where he graduated in 1999. Johnathan clerked for the Honorable Judge Gerald J. Seibel in Morris, MN and moved to St. Paul, MN where he worked for the Minnesota Department of Commerce.
Johnathan moved Moorhead in 2002 where he worked at Concordia College as the Director of Multicultural Affairs. He began working as an Assistant Public Defender in 2006 with the Minnesota Board of Public Defense. Johnathan was in private practice for a few years until he became a prosecutor in the Clay County Attorney’s office in 2013. He has been in private practice since that time, while obtaining a part-time contract with the Minnesota Board of Public Defense. Johnathan is currently an Adjunct instructor at Minnesota State University Moorhead in the Criminal Justice Department.
Johnathan has been married to Tammi Fortney for 14 years. Tammi is a School Psychologist for the Moorhead Area Public School District and they have three children attending Moorhead Area Public Schools.
Johnathan is passionate about building community. He is active in the Moorhead community, having volunteered in many capacities. Johnathan has served on several non-profit boards, such as the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality, Cultural Diversity Resources, Moorhead Police Activities League, (P.A.L.) Moorhead Youth Hockey Association and the Scott Tobolt Foundation.
Johnathan has been appointed by previous Moorhead mayors to serve on the Civil Service and Human Rights Commissions. Johnathan also has previously served on the hiring committee for the Moorhead Police Department.
Johnathan has been very involved with youth sports activities by coaching Moorhead Babe Ruth and Little League Baseball, F-M Athletics football, along with Moorhead Parks and Recreation Baseball and Football. He is also a certified Minnesota State High School League football official.
